HORWOOD BAGSHAW PARTS

Many of the different components (both press wheels and coulters) that Manutec manufacture that can be fitted to Horwood Bagshaw machines are part of the Manutec Zero Maintenance range.

This is a generic code, more specific information on parts is available by clicking through the various sections.  This page gives a summary of what we have available for various Horwood Bagshaw machines.  Alternatively if you use the enquire now button above one of our staff will call you to discuss which size wheels, which tyre profiles, which discs and which hubs are most suitable for your conditions and what type of assembly will best suit your conditions. You are welcome to call and speak to one of our staff at any time.  Manutec has a long history of working with Horwood Bagshaw farm machinery and has experience to help farmers make the machines work more efficiently for better results and less downtime.

We know what questions to ask you about your farm to help you make the correct decision.  We believe that every farm is different and it is important to understand what is going to work best on your farm.  We can also discuss your machinery and which type of assembly is best.

Questions we will ask:

  1. Soil Types (Sandy/Non-Wetting Sands/Sandy Loams/Loam Clay/Sand over Clay/Red Clay/Grey Clay/Black Soils/Granite Soils)
  2. Rock Types (Lime Stone/Granite/Iron Stone/Sand Stone)
  3. Trash Levels
  4. Spacing Widths
  5. Single Row/Double/Split Row/Paired Row/spread Seed)
  6. Wet/Dry Seeding Ratios
  7. Cropping Area (Hectares)
  8. Use of Irrigation
  9. Crop Types and Percentages (Pasture/Hay/Oats/Canola/Legumes/Wheat/Barley/Chick Peas/Peas/Beans)
  10. Summer/Winter Crops or Both
  11. Sheep or Cattle also on the property

There are two Horwood Bagshaw machines that we work with most, the Precision Seeding System (PSS) and the Scaribar.  We also occasionally find some older machines and also the Compact Seeder bars.  The information below relates mostly to the PSS and the Scaribar but the assemblies can also be used on the older machine and also the Compact Seeder.  The Compact Seeder does require a bit more work to be done to get assemblies fitted.

HORWOOD PRECISION SEEDING SYSTEM (PSS)

Manutec has a large range of wheel and tyre options to suit the PSS from the very first to the very latest model.  A full range of spare parts is also available.  Manutec started working with Horwood Bagshaw on the very first prototype, assisting with the initial designs and participating in the trials.  Later we worked with Horwood Bagshaw to transition their PSS to our developing Zero Maintenance range, the first machine was fitted out with Zero Maintenance press wheels in 2015.  The first machines built and or later modified to Zero Maintenance standards required a different or new press wheel arm.  This arm was designed to use an SKF BA series agrihub with a 5x98mm PCD (Manutec Code PWHUB/AH5) and the press wheel rim that we use is also different to our standard.  This hub bolted directly on to the new style press wheel carrier arm. In the gallery there are a few pictures of one of these machines.  Horwood Bagshaw was one of the first maker of Australian farm machinery to have faith in Manutec’s Zero Maintenance vision.  The only downside to this system was that a new different arm was required which added to the cost for existing farming customers to be able to take advantage of changing across to Zero Maintenance.  In conjunction with the agricultural division of SKF Manutec developed a new AgriHub that could be retrofitted to any type of machine and that had a stud pattern compatible with many press wheels and coulters used in Australia, the 5×107.95 HT pattern.  Once Manutec released this product it meant that any PSS bar could retrofitted to Zero Maintenance standard without the need for a new arm.

One word of caution, some PSS machines have an aftermarket arm developed by Knuckeys.  If you have a PSS with Knuckey’s arms you can still retrofit Zero Maintenance but your wheel size may be larger and your stub axles slightly longer.  This does create some confusion for ordering parts as most owners assume that their PSS is a standard and are unaware of the Knuckey’s arms being fitted by a previous owner.  The easiest way to tell is by the axle.  In the gallery are some images of what the stub axle should like on an original PSS.

If you have one of the older machines with the older style greaseable taper roller bearing wheels (15″ Integral Hub) we recommend that when looking to buy spare parts that you progressively change over to the new Zero Maintenance press wheels.  We have a dedicated code for the wheels to go on the PSS bars as the set up of the wheel and the stub axle are specific to the PSS.  When you receive the parts make sure you follow the assembly instructions closely, do not assume it is put together like a standard hub.  The PSS has the hub bolted on to the outside face of the wheel to ensure that the wheel is centred in the seeding row.  There are some photos in the gallery that show this.

COULTERS

Like most Parallelograms operating in heavy trash can present challenges, especially on narrow row spacings.  The Manutec Heavy Duty Coulter range can be fitted across the front of the PSS to solve this problem.  These are also part of the Manutec Zero Maintenance range, so you will have compatible hubs on both your press wheels and coulters.  Yes we hear you, what an amazing idea, parts compatibility !!

There is another generic code on Manutec’s Heavy Duty Coulter range so have a look at that.  There a lots of pictures in the gallery, plus a short video below.

HORWOOD SCARIBAR

Manutec has a range of press wheel assemblies and coulters that can be easily fitted to Scaribars to turn them into minimal til seeding systems.  Press wheel systems can be inside frame mounted or rear mounted.  Generally for rear mounted a new rear toolbar is required and for coulters a new front tool bar is required.  One advantage of the Scaribar is that when fitting a new rear toolbar it can fitted as close as 100mm behind the back frame of the machine.

All of Manutec’s press wheel and coulter assemblies are available as part of Zero Maintenance range and either fitted with Agrihubs or fully sealed low maintenance Agri-bearings.  Additionally all existing systems for the last 30 years can be converted to Zero Maintenance.

Press Wheel and Coulter systems include;

  • Press Wheels
  • twin walking press wheels (most common system on Scaribars, especially on narrow row spacings)
  • single independent rear mounted press wheels
  • inframe mounted press wheels (with optional seeding system)
  • gang press wheels (a bit tricky because of the metric spacings, but can be done)
  • parallelogram press wheels (with optional seeding system
  • tyne mounted press wheels
  • Coulters
  • heavy duty single and twin coulter systems
  • medium duty single and twin coulter systems

Each one of the options above has a detailed generic code which you can find easily in the relevant section on this website.  The generic code provides detailed information on each system.  You will also find specific codes for different variations, such as wheel size, tyre shape and composition, disc shapes and sizes, bearing types.  Do not be concerned if you cannot find the exact variation that you are looking for, we add new variations to suit different farms every day.

We understand that making the correct decision is important, so please give us a call when you are putting your plans together.  We know what questions to ask you about your farm to help you make the correct decision.  We believe that every farm is different and it is important to understand what is going to work best on your farm.  We can also discuss your machinery and which type of assembly is best.

Questions we will ask:

For all Manutec products we carry a full range of spare parts for every component used in all of our products.

For a press wheel tyres fact sheet, scroll down to More Information and click on Press Wheels Info Sheet and a pdf containing detailed information on press wheel tyre selection will be downloaded.

Note all tyre and wheel sizes are nominal and when determining tyre and wheel size we use the outside diameter of the tyre, so a 15″ Manutec Press Wheel with a tyre fitted has an overall diameter of 15″.  This diameter varies slightly across the range depending on the shape of the tyre.

COMPLETE MAKEOVER

Do you have an old bar and are looking to convert it into a new machine with a different capability.  Many of the old bars are very well built and with a fresh coat of paint can be made to look pretty good, maybe just the tynes are at their end of life.  Manutec has available and is developing other products that can be retrofitted to an old bar to give it a new lease on life.  These include;

  • Double Disc Systems (Single Row)
  • AlphaDisc Twin Disc Systems (Double Row-Fixed)
  • Complete replacement Tyne and Parallelogram Seeding Unit (Currently at Prototype testing)
  • New bolt on Parallelogram Seeding Unit (Currently at Prototype testing)

So if you are considering rebuilding your own bar give us a call.  We can also assist you to get a new bar built using the systems above.

So why insist on Manutec products ?

  1. 100% Australian Owned for nearly 30 years and we intend to be here to support our customers for the next 30 years.  We first started working with your grandfather and then his sons and daughters and now his grandchildren
  2. Large range of options to suit all farming, conditions we do not believe in a one fit for all conditions.
  3. Our aftermarket products are not copies, they are a different product that is designed to solve problems on the original manufacturer’s machinery.  We fix other brands issues.
  4. We listen to our customers. The majority of our products are a result of listening to our customers.  We understand that Australia is not another state of the USA.
  5. We back up our products and will always answer your phone calls.
  6. All of our products are repairable, and we are working hard to implement the Zero Maintenance philosophy across the complete range of our products.  Where possible we source the best quality components from the best quality manufacturers.
  7. We carry a full range of spare parts for every product and most spare parts leave same day or next day.  In  most cases we have parts (some upgraded to the latest spec) for products that are 30 years old and if we don’t we will have a work around solution. Most customers are blown away when they visit us and see how many parts and how much stock we hold.
  8. Our products are used by Australia’s leading manufacturers of farm equipment, especially those that care about their customers, more than they care about cutting costs.
  9. On-site Rapid Prototyping (3D Print) and Machining Centres
  10. We field test all new design prototypes for as long as it takes to get the product farm ready for Australian conditions.

So what should you be wary of ?

  1. When you are buying equipment from overseas, consider how that machine is going to be supported when you have breakdowns and the time delay in getting parts and the cost of those parts.
  2. The above also applies to some “fly by night” local companies.  Are they going to be able to deliver in the first place and will they be around when you need parts ?  Will they answer your phone when you need them ?
  3. Beware of manufacturers both local and overseas that have a one fit suits all approach to designing farm equipment.  Australian farms are very different from East to West and from North to South and very different to North American and European farms.
  4. Beware of Australian manufacturers that use componentry from overseas that could be sourced in Australia.  There is a good chance those components will not be available when you need them and that the cost will be high.
