Slimline Agri-Hub Variant – Assembly – Swivel Arm Assemblies are a popular method of adding a press wheel capability to either a new or an existing air seeder bar. The rear mounted swivel assemblies are a derivative of the very popular walking wheel system and many of the components are common.  Swivel Arm Assemblies give you the option to run either all single wheels (good option on very wide spacings) or to run two wheels side by side on a fixed spacing width axle.  The delayed swivel and spring allow the swivel assemblies to steer though most turns and ensure the wheels stay in the furrow a high percentage of the time.  Swivel Arm Assemblies are fitted across the rear of the machine which makes spotting breakdowns easy as well as providing easy access for maintenance.  They are designed to be fitted at the same height as the existing bar which also gives excellent ground clearance.  A new toolbar across the back of the machine (either 3″/75mm or 4″/100mm), fitted at the same height as the existing toolbar (in most cases).  If mounting height is variable then the ideal working height is 700mm below the bar.

The units can be configured for low pressure (15kg) or high pressure (40kg), however most units are run at an average pressure of between 20 and 25kg. A choice of 15, 16 or 18 inch wheel sizes is available with a large number of tyre options. Units come standard with  Zero maintenance Agrihubs. A range of other accessories are available to augment performance in some marginal conditions.

These wheels also have a tool plate and can be configured with seed tubes if required.  This is very popular for small pasture/hay seeds and canola as it enables the seed to be planted very shallow by using the press wheel to set the depth.  This seeding option needs to be very carefully considered if you are in high trash environments.

A range of other accessories are available to augment performance in some marginal conditions and a large range of tyre sizes, shapes and compositions are available to work from the stickiest clays to the hardest limestone and everything in between.

The walking wheel brackets are designed to be fitted to either 3″ (75mm) or 4″ (100mm) square frame.

Walking Wheels can also be done with greaseable integral hubs.   They are also available in either Ford or Holden Lazy Hubs if required. Although all 3 of these older style wheel hubs is becoming increasingly uncommon.

These units are also available in a fixed arm (no swivel option) and we also recommend that you check out the twin walking wheels.

Note all tyre and wheel sizes are nominal and when determining tyre and wheel size we use the outside diameter of the tyre, so a 15″ Manutec Press Wheel with a tyre fitted has an overall diameter of 15″.  This diameter varies slightly across the range depending on the shape of the tyre.

So what should you be wary of ?

1. When you are buying equipment from overseas, consider how that machine is going to be supported when you have breakdowns and the time delay in getting parts and the cost of those parts.
2. The above also applies to some “fly by night” local companies.  Are they going to be able to deliver in the first place and will they be around when you need parts ?  Will they answer your phone when you need them ?
3. Beware of manufacturers both local and overseas that have a one fit suits all approach to designing farm equipment.  Australian farms are very different from East to West and from North to South and very different to North American and European farms.
4. Beware of Australian manufacturers that use componentry from overseas that could be sourced in Australia.  There is a good chance those components will not be available when you need them and that the cost will be high.
